Copolymerization of CO(sub 2) and epoxides catalyzed by metal salen complexes

Article Abstract:

An effort done to optimize (salen)Cr(super III)X catalysts for the selective formation of polycarbonates form alicyclic and aliphatic epoxides with CO2 is summarized. The production of polycarbonates from the copolymerization of CO(sub 2) and epoxides represents a potentially less expensive and significantly greener route to the thermoplastics than the commercial process which involves the polycondensation of diols and phosgene or carbonates.

DNA templated assembly of helical cyanine dye aggregates: a supramolecular chain polymerization

Article Abstract:

Symmetrical cationic cyanine dye assembles in cooperative fashion into helical supramolecular polymers using DNA as a template. The account describes how polymerization depends on the dye structure and DNA sequence and also summarizes the interesting optical properties exhibited by the helical materials.

Molecular identification of bacteria associated with bacterial vaginosis

Article Abstract:

Bacteria linked with bacterial vaginosis in women are identified without cultivation by characterizing their ribosomal DNA (rDNA) sequences. The study points out that complex vaginal infections with many newly identified species affect women with bacterial vaginosis.
