Code on Management Regs published

Article Abstract:

The UK Health and Safety Commission's (ACoP) Approved Code of Conduct on the Management Of Health and Safety at Work Regulations cover all work operations. The regulations ensure that employers introduce effective management of health and safety measures. The ACoP helps employers how to test the competence of health and safety specialists and covers details on health surveillance. Risk assessments already covered in previous legislation need not be covered under the management regulations.

Green light for Magnox stations

Article Abstract:

The UK Health and Safety Executive Nuclear Installations Inspectorate has passed four of Nuclear Electric's Magnox power stations as safe for continuing operations. These are Hinkley Point 'A' in Somerset, Bradwell in Essex, Sizewell 'A' in Suffolk and Dungeness 'A' in Kent. Since February 1991, Nuclear Electric has presented extra evidence to show the prolonged soundness of the stations' steel pressure vessels. Large cracks in such vessels could cause serious radioactive leaks.

Duty to manage asbestos

Article Abstract:

The United Kingdom Health and Safety Commission wants to strengthen the law on asbestos by making those in charge of buildings where asbestos is found liable to manage it and prevent any risks to workers.
