Cholesterol and coronary heart disease: Screening and treatment
Article Abstract:
Coronary heart disease (CHD) accounted for about one-quarter of all deaths in 1995. Serum cholesterol is a recognized risk factor, but doubts have been cast on the effectiveness of cholesterol screening as the majority of CHD events happen in people who do not have a raised cholesterol level. As blood cholesterol is a relatively poor predictor of CHD, and other major risk factors, such as smoking and diabetes, must be considered. Cholesterol levels can be lowered by intervention such as diet and drugs.

Caring for confused people in the general hospital setting
Article Abstract:
Many older medical surgical patients experience acute confusion which poses management problems in a general hospital. Such confused patients will experience feelings of anger, frustration and embarrasment, and often the general hospital ware environment can exacerbate distress levels. A primary nursing approach is required to care for confused people so that consistency is maintained.
