Article Abstract:

Over a thousand doctors and health care leaders from the US and China met to discuss how they could help each other manage a changing health care system. China's centralized system is becoming more decentralized, whereas the decentralized US system is becoming more centralized. Participants hope they can learn from each other's mistakes.

Nanoscale biosensors show promise

Article Abstract:

Nanotechnology expert Charles Lieber, PhD, and colleagues have developed a silicone chip containing tiny nanoscale biosensors that are capable of detecting a single virus. They have also developed biological sensors that detect specific DNA sequences.

Efforts are under way to design a better vaccine in order to prevent tuberculosis (TB) and develop novel drugs to treat the disease. One of the reasons for vaccine design is to improve the existing BCG vaccine that was developed in the early 1900s.
