Arizona county debates effort to privatize health system

Article Abstract:

Arizona's Maricopa County continues to struggle with its plan to privatize its entire public health care system. Opponents and proponents of the privatization plan want to implement their different approaches towards enabling the public health system to more effectively compete in the health care marketplace. The privatization plan for the public health care system, which operates on an annual budget of $650 million, is to convert it into a nonprofit entity and lease the facilities for an annual fee of $12.5 million.

First federal guidelines issued on workplace violence

Article Abstract:

The Occupational Health and Safety Administration issued the first federal guidelines regarding workplace violence on Mar 14, 1996. The guidelines, which are not mandatory, recommend that social service and healthcare employees carefully assess security issues which may result in workplace violence. About 66% of all workers assaulted in the workplace are health care and social service employees.

Patients get physician info with the tap of a finger

Article Abstract:

Health Partners has introduced an electronic patient-information system to assist patients with choosing a medical care provider. The Consumer Choice system includes biographical information about 4,000 local physicians, patient satisfaction data and information about parking and hours at local clinics. Consumer Choice will be available on the Internet in fall 1996.
