Dr. John D. Folts stressed that the artery-clearing effect associated with alcohol is due to the flavonoid compounds found in fruits and vegetables. Folts noted that flavonoids can inhibit platelet development more effectively than aspirin and that pure alcohol does not have enough health benefits.

Sears, a scientist and author of the book, 'The Zone,' argues that a high carbohydrate diet causes increased insulin flow which in turn causes food to be stored as fat. He suggest a more balanced diet of proteins and carbohydrate to keep insulin in balance.

Article Abstract:

A man whose father died of a heart attack at age 53 wishes he could have known him longer. He also considers his own mortality. Asking one's own father about his health and health habits can give a man an opportunity to adjust for genetic risk factors.
