A 34-year-old woman with endometriosis and bilateral hydronephrosis

Article Abstract:

A 34-year-old woman was diagnosed with hydronephrosis of both kidneys caused by kidney stone formation. Hydronephrosis is a disorder characterized by retention of urine caused by obstruction of a ureter, a tube that carries urine from the kidney to the bladder. The patient was admitted to the hospital with severe pain in her side and lower back, and she was experiencing difficulty urinating. Seven years before admission, she had been diagnosed with endometriosis, a disorder characterized by abnormal growth of the lining of the uterus. She had been diagnosed with Grave's Disease, a thyroid gland disorder, eight months before admission. She had had two episodes of blood in her urine during the months before being admitted to the hospital. Radiographic imaging revealed that both of her ureters were blocked by a kidney stone. The stones were removed, and she started a special diet to prevent kidney stone formation.
