1948: a new health organization is born

Article Abstract:

The World Health Organization (WHO) officially began on April 7, 1948, following planning, study and constitution ratification by the United Nations. WHO's first emphasis was on combating venereal diseases, malaria, tuberculosis, and the poor health of mothers and children. These and other health concerns have endured throughout WHO's history, yet many lives have been saved over the years.

New role of nurses and midwives

Article Abstract:

Members of the World Health Organization are concerned over the decrease in the number of practicing nurses since they play such an important role in health care services. It is felt that more attention should be paid to enhancing their role in health acre policy formulation.

Life for its own sake

Article Abstract:

Nurses play a vital role in making sure that people maintain the highest medical standards in taking care of their health problems. They are, in essence, the link between diagnosis and survival because they provide continuous support, expertise and practical assistance.
