Article Abstract:
A condition characterized by an obstructed vagina called imperforate hymen can result in the accumulation of fluid and blood in the vagina and uterus. The identification and treatment of a 13-year-old girl with imperforate hymen are presented. Genital examination revealed a large mass above a closed and thickened hymen. The mass was removed and the vaginal opening repaired surgically. Affected young women should be counseled about the possibility of painful intercourse later in life.

Article Abstract:
The absence of social policy to regulate reproductive technology uses will lead to the commercialization of reproduction, exploitation of women and commodification of children. Reproductive technology uses should not be left to private decisions and market forces because it will undermine social values and equity. Decisions on reproductive and genetic technology should not be regarded as matters of individual choice because such decisions affect the whole society.
