Article Abstract:
Dysrhythmia, the heart rhythm disturbances and changes in the cardiac conduction system, are a function of age. These changes affect cell structures in the heart, such as energy metabolism or degeneration of the SA node and atrial myocardium. Vascular changes and autonomic influences also alter the rate of response. Nursing considerations involve monitoring for evidence of dysrhythmia and related complications, reducing patient anxiety, and open communication with the patient.

Statistics regarding incidence are presented, as are descriptions of the various risks of infection. Careful following of all safety procedures is the only defense.
