Aetna deals itself out

Article Abstract:

Aetna U.S. Healthcare has joined other insurers in abandoning medical practices with the sale of its physician practice management business to Medpartners Inc of Birmingham, AL. Management and other services are provided to 800 doctors in six physician associations are handled by Aetna Professional Management Corp which MedPartners is acquiring. The 47 Aetna Healthways Family Medical Centers are also being acquired.

Stop violence now

Article Abstract:

Healthcare providers must, like the Group Health Cooperative of Puget Sound (GHC), take action to fight the US' violence epidemic. GHC's Seattle, WA-area antiviolence efforts are outlined. The Minority Youth Health Project provides administrative, technical and financial assistance to community groups fighting violence, substance abuse, teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted disease.

Article Abstract:

Violence prevention is becoming a significant issue in the healthcare sector. The growth of managed care has prompted hospitals and health care providers to seek proactive measures to combat violence, particularly violence involving youth. However, public policy has not place a similar emphasis on violence prevention. Early intervention can improve behavior modification efforts.
