A grounded theory of reimaging

Article Abstract:

A grounded theory of reimaging has been proposed, based on experiences of 28 study participants. They experienced loss of paralysis of body parts, ostomies, significant weight change, scarring from burns or trauma or surgical reconstruction and were interviewed at 3, 6, 12 and 18 months after the alteration. Three phases, action processes, influencing factors and outcomes of reimaging are discussed. Physical alterations in appearance or functioning may well influence self-esteem based on findings of several cross-sectional qualitative studies.

The middle-range theory of unpleasant symptoms: an update

Article Abstract:

The middle-range theory of unpleasant symptoms, first offered in 1995, has been revised to permit more accurate measurement and research. Appropriate questions will help patients disclose the physiologic, psychologic, and situational aspects of their symptoms, as well as intensity, duration, and the distress the symptoms cause. This revision has been used to guide a multifaceted intervention to promote successful breastfeeding.

Developing a new model for cross-cultural research: synthesizing the health belief model and the theory of reasoned action

Article Abstract:

A new model of health behavior was created by combining two current models in hopes of creating a model that accounts for cultural differences. This multicultural model was tested to determine why Mexican migrant workers resisted tests to see if they had tuberculosis.
