A case history: forging a "reusable" alliance

Article Abstract:

The Medical Center of Central Georgia, a teaching hospital, was able to establish a profitable partnership with Medline Industries Inc., a linen supplier from Mundelein, IL. The partnership began when the hospital thought of reusing room linen to reduce expenses. This idea evolved into schemes that would earn revenues for the hospital, such as entering the sterile surgical pack market. The hospital's management decided to partner with a laundry firm to facilitate entry into its target markets. The partnership with Medline resulted in a service called Central Georgia Ancillary Health Systems. The firm offers sterile pack services, linen rental and waste incineration services.

How to calculate total purchase cost

Article Abstract:

Effective purchasing management may be done by computing for monetary values of nonmonetary issues such as delivery and quality performance. Computing for nonmonetary issues involves computing for savings incurred if a certain activity is eliminated and then dividing that by the number of units purchased. Such computations give credence to purchasing decisions and give suppliers an evaluation of their products and service.
