A Cooperative Organizational Form for Hospitals

Article Abstract:

An organization chart is presented that is currently being used by hospitals. They note that although physicians make decisions concerning use of hospital facilities they are not really involved in budgetary policies. The Wrights also offer what they term a cooperative organizational form and then compare that to the traditional organization structure. The advantages of the cooperative organizational form are: 1) involve physicians and nurses in financial responsibility and planning for their department, along with patient care, 2) areas are linked by specialty and common interests and 3) may make diagnosis related group (DRG) easier to adopt and cost efficient. The problems of physician and nurse involvement are discussed along with limitations to this structure. The Wrights also discuss implementation and make additional recommendations.

Persuasive Communication Strategies for Hospitals

Article Abstract:

Persuasive communication is divided into three components: 1) direct selling, 2) public media usage and 3) advertising. Hierarchy of effects is explained in terms of a sequence, knowledge- attitude - intention - behavior (KAIB), or intention - knowledge - behavior - attitude (IKBA). Examples of the usage of both sequences are provided. KIBA sequence is useful when products are very similar, while IKBA acts as a permanent resource. Intention - behavior - knowledge - attitude (IBKA) plays on decisions a customer has already made. Knowledge - intention - behavior - attitude (KIBA) promotes name recognition.

Organizational cultures, strategies, and commitments in health care organizations

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to examine the development of organizational culture in health care organizations. The study focuses on the knowledge gap existent in such culture studies and considers the application of quantitative methods in analyzing organizational culture. Results show that norms and values influence organizational commitment and job satisfaction. In addition, consistent strategies develop strong organizational cultures.
