Public policies, regional inequalities and growth

Article Abstract:

A two-region endogenous growth model that examines the contribution of several public policy types on economic geography, growth and spatial income distribution was constructed. The main components of the model were industrial location and public infrastructures in the northern and southern regions of Europe. It was shown that the problem with public policies is that once they achieve their objectives of a more equal spatial distribution of economic activities, the result may be lower growth for both regions.

State alcohol policies, teen drinking and traffic fatalities

Article Abstract:

The policy responsiveness of teen drinking in models that can condition on the unobserved state-specific attributes that may have biased conventional evaluations was evaluated by an empirical study. The results showed the importance of cross-state heterogeneity. In addition, the effect of beer taxes on teen drinking were relatively small and insignificant. The findings also indicated that conventional beer tax elasticities were not robust to additional controls for omitted variables.
