Manufacturers and distributors of CCTV equipment are advised to consult with their lawyers whether their products comply with 2512 (b) of Title 18 of the US Wiretapping Law. The Dept of Justice, together with the offices of various state attorney general's offices and the Treasury Dept are conducting operations which seize CCTV equipment with disguised covert audio capabilities intended to surreptitiously intercept and record audio transmission. CCTV cameras with hidden audio components made to look like clocks, PIRS, smoke detectors and other products could be confiscated.

Inter Page and Motorola Inc's Paging Products Group have introduced products and systems to coordinate and send information to roaming security personnel. Inter Page's products include the Telepath 450 desk top on-site pager and the Connexions On-Site Paging System. Motorola's paging products are based on the FLEX technology, which is a high-speed, high-volume paging protocol capable of transmitting messages with speeds of 6,400 bits per second.

Manufacturers of closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV) have developed products capable of enhanced resolution and sensivity due to the use of digital and hybrid circuitry. Panasonic and Samsung Opto-Electronics America have introduced two advanced surveillance devices. Panasonic's WV- CST604 is a 1/4 inch color CCD with over 480 lines of resolution. Samsung's 'iSight' camera is capable of adjusting to contrasting light.
