Reduction in price and size boosts the popularity of analog addressable systems that are now installed almost everywhere, from the smallest to the biggest application. Analog addressable systems offer benefits such as the capability to remotely check sensitivities, lower maintenance and variable sensitivities and drift compensation. According to Grinnell Fire Protection Systems' engineering manager, Rod James, most of the smaller analog addressable systems are installed in such facilities as condominiums, theaters, retirement homes and small shopping centers.

Digital Processing Systems Inc (DPS) of Florence, KY, reported that it has agreed to sell its Security Products Div to Gyyr Inc for $7.5 million. DPS' products include the Digital Detective and DPS Watson security recorders. DPS said the sale will allow it concentrate on its post production and broadcast core business. Gyyr, for its part, said it will be able to acquire technologically advanced products for its electronic security surveillance.

Bomb detection operations should be the integration of different technologies and the human element. Some of the technologies are computed tomography, X-rays, metal detectors and trace detection units. The human element includes manual searches and the determination by operators that some bags could contain bombs. The increasing speed of bomb detection equipment had led the FAA to reconsider the human factor in the performance of the systems.
