AGA marks CGFM's 10th year: Looks forward to bright future

Article Abstract:

The Association for Government Accountants (AGA's) Certified Financial Manager (CGFM) program has completed 10 years and is considered to be AGA's most successful undertaking. AGA hopes for a strong growth in numbers, and widespread recognition among people within and outside the profession, by showing that the CGFM is a preferred certification for government financial managers.

SSA, EPA rewarded with a green light on scorecard

The Social Security Administration (SSA), is a better-managed agency that is more accountable to the people it serves. A major transformation in its financial management processes has resulted in two important milestones, namely that the agency received a green score on the financial management portion of the President's Management Agenda.

The Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill decided to audit the annual consolidated financial statements on fiscal year 2002 in 45 days where the usual practice was closing 5 months after the end of the fiscal year. The department overcame its barriers to success by adopting the mantra that 'no issue or impediment is insurmountable'.
