Article Abstract:

The proposal to reduce the U.S. armed forces into a small, easily deployable force has been criticized by the National Guard Association. The association believes that the proposal may operate well during peacetime but it will make its effects evident during large scale wartime scenarios. This is because the proposal will, in effect, alienate the reserve forces from the regulars.

Article Abstract:

The reduction policies initiated by the different US military services have made an impact on military personnel. Many personnel who had decided on a military career are being forced out by slow promotion or other regulations. These servicemen are disappointed and are apprehensive of their futures because they will have a hard time reentering a recession-plagued economy.

Article Abstract:

Admiral David E. Jeremiah, vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff believes that the Base Force proposal is the best reduction alternative for the US. However, he reiterated the need to provide fast and efficient transport systems to be able to deploy troops. Furthermore, he emphasized the need to provide adequate benefits to those who will remain in service.
