Rudi Gernreich will be honored for initiating fashion innovations in the 1960s by the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Gernreich, who created a name with his topless bathing suit and other fashion innovations, died on Apr 21, 1985 of lung cancer.
