The Erhud quarries, in the Ziz oasis of the Moroccan Sahara, are the world capital of exotic Devonian Trilobite fossils. However, the desperate poverty of the region leads to many fossils being wholly or partly faked and fabricated for the lucrative collectors market.

Local influences that provoke specific forms of mental illness, such as "latah", a Malaysian condition similar to Tourette's syndrome, are examined. These conditions are know as culture-bound syndromes, defined as disorders arising from culture rather than pathology.

University of Tennessee's anthropological research unit, since 1977, has maintained a field of decaying corpses next to the campus. Some two dozen corpses are studied as they progress through various stages of decay.
