Reading to Mr. White

Article Abstract:

A nurse's aide recalls the time in 1984 when she got a job in the Brooklin, ME, home of the author E.B. White, then 85 years old and in the early stages of Alzheimer's disease. Most of her job consisted of her reading to him, including highly emotional times for both when she read from his work.

Article Abstract:

Sculptor James Earle Fraser was chosen by the US Treasury in 1911 to design a replacement for the Liberty Head nickel. Fraser came up with the idea for the Indian Head-Buffalo nickel, which was so admired the Treasury ordered vending machine slots widened to accommodate it.

Article Abstract:

Young Ernest Hemingway was clearly impressed by the maritime life he experienced as an 11-year-old when his mother took him from Iowa to Martha's Vineyard in Sep 1910. He wrote a fictional Martha's Vineyard sea adventure upon returning to sixth grade.
