Article Abstract:

As an introduction to a series of articles describing the best summer jobs available in New England, a personal narrative is presented describing the experiences of working on the Appalachian Mountain Club trail crew in 1984. The crew worked out of Camp Dodge in New Hampshire's White Mountain National Forest.

Chemists David and Susan Henderson reveal that hot peppers are not only good for cooking but also good for the health. The couple discovered an antioxidant substance in pepper called capsaicin, which may lower breakdown of body fats and retard the development of diseases such as cancer.

Dick Sewell is selling his family's 8.7-acre homestead in Montville, ME, for around $265,000. The property has three dwellings, a pond, a studio and a garage. It was once occupied by a community called 'Kingdom Valley' and later was home to an arts and crafts school.
