Former Secretary of the Treasury Summers will become president of Harvard University with an endowment larger than the net worth of most large corporations or the GDP of many countries. Summers will have the burden of how to spend the money, amidst protests and complaints that the school does not pay around 400 of its employees a living wage.

Yale University Pres Benno C. Schmidt is leaving to head the Whittle Communications Edison Project. Schmidt's tenure at Yale has been controversial. The faculty has revolted against his plans to restructure departments and scale down the university. Two key officials have resigned.
