The town of Cheshire, MA, constructed a giant cheese weighing 1,235 pounds and sent it to Pres Thomas Jefferson as a gift on New Year's Day, 1802. The president was said to have been delighted with the gift, a replica of which is displayed in the town center.

Into the teeth of the storm

Four members of a search unit rescued the crew of the La Conte, a 77-foot fishing vessel, which encountered head winds that averaged 60 knots. The survivors recovered from hypothermia and did not suffer permanent injuries.

Research shows that cheese plays an important role in promoting dental health. The calcium and phosphate in cheese mixes with saliva and coats the teeth surface, protecting them from acids caused by sweets.
