Issues concerning socially determined diseases are discussed. Particular attention is given to disorders connected with social anxiety, mild depression, premenstrual dysphoria and sickness during spare time. Ways of identifying these psychological disorders and treatments are suggested.

The National Institute of Mental Health in the United States report that generalised anxiety disorder (GAD) affects approximately 4 million people, with twice the number of women than men suffering. GAD is second only to depression as the most common psychiatric illness.

'My mother is making me sick.'

Article Abstract:

A 29-year-old woman recounts her dreadful experiences caused by her mother who is suffering from Munchausen by Proxy. The mental illness is a pattern of child abuse in which the mother exaggerates or invents symptoms in her child to satisfy her medical delusions.
