1895: an American first

Article Abstract:

The first gasoline buggy was sold in 1895 by inventors Charles E. Duryea and J. Frank. The first man to mass produce the car was Ransom E. Olds and his factory produced 425 in 1901. As their popularity grew, the first service station was built in 1907 and better roads were built.

1912: the racers edge

Article Abstract:

The automobile became more popular as it gained speed and power and became easier and cheaper to produce. Greater speed led to the development of professional racing and caused more accidents. Henry Ford began mass producing the Model T and sold about 1 million cars in 1920.
