Essential knowledge for a doctoral degree in nutrition education

Article Abstract:

Society of Nutrition Education members with doctoral degrees in foods and nutrition were surveyed as to how doctoral students in nutrition should be trained and educated. The members believe that multidisciplinary nutrition education curricula should include courses in advanced human nutrition, critical and analytical thinking, advanced biochemistry and professional composition. The survey also revealed that, despite the availability of other career paths, most doctoral students pursue careers in educational institutions.

Social marketing and nutrition education: inappropriate or misunderstood?

Article Abstract:

A study indicated that social marketing is an inappropriate tool to promote nutrition education. However, most of the assertions supporting such a claim arose from a false understanding about the social marketing concept. To gain a better understanding of the concept of social marketing, a discussion of its basic features is presented. In addition, social marketing's value to nutrition education is also discussed.
