Towns such as Oakhurst, Auburn, Columbia and Coulterville offer visitors an opportunity to pan for gold in a scenic, historic area. Restaurants and wineries in the area are discussed, and recipes are given for lamb with fresh mint and rosemary and other dishes from local restaurants.
