UK's Hillsdown buys Allied's Lyons biscuit brand

Allied Domecq has sold Lyons Biscuits to Hillsdown Holdings, involved in food processing. Lyons will now be merged with Hillsdown's Premier Biscuits operations. Allied is increasingly concentrating on its spirits activities, and has already sold off other food operations. Lyons manufactures chocolate covered biscuits, cookies and related items, and in the year to Mar 1994 achieved turnover of 44 million pounds sterling.

United Biscuits restructures two French operations

Article Abstract:

United Biscuits (UB) is to restructure its French operations with the merger of Verkade and KP Foods, into a single unit, United Biscuits France, with the aim of improving profitability. There will be a relaunch of the two main brands backed by a major television advertising campaign. The company hopes to double volume sales of Verkade and Croky within five yers, although the biscuit market is dominated by Danone.

UB to sell US biscuit and snacks division

Article Abstract:

United Biscuits of the UK, a food group, is to sell its Keebler subsidiary in the US, a manufacturer of biscuits and snacks. Keebler's salty snacks division has only just broken even, and there may be difficulties in finding a buyer, as it is located in three different plants in the US. Keebler has seen falling profits and low sales.
