Prices soar at Midwinter auctions

Article Abstract:

Wine auctions between February 27, to March 6, 1999 sold 93 to 100% of their stocks. Prices were high as the demand was so strong. Highlights from the period include the sale of a bottle of Chateau Ausone 1900 for $3,915 and Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1900 for $5,161. Anticipation is building for millennial wine sales.

Article Abstract:

Many wines that were reasonably priced when they were released, such as 1961 Chateau Petrus, have appreciated so dramatically that many collectors cannot bring themselves to drink them. Several collectors discuss their views on the topic.

Index gains by 7.2 percent in second quarter

Article Abstract:

The Wine Spectator Auction Index showed a 7.2% rise in the prices of wine sold at auction in 2nd qtr 1997. Prices of red Bordeaux had an 11% gain while the average increase for red Burgundy was 13%.
