Westerners who have tried to break into the market for Tokay, Hungary's favorite wine, have been frustrated several times by government refusal to grant them the honor of using the wine's label because of insufficient oxidization. This development discourages foreign investment in the industry.

Tamas returned to Hungary, where he was born, as a part of Volunteers in Overseas Cooperative Assistance. He owns Ivan Tamas Cellars in Livermore, CA, and will help Tokay vintners learn to market and sell their wines. Tamas plans to return and help Hungarians further.
