Hungarians reject new Western-style wines in a blow to several foreign investors

Westerners who have tried to break into the market for Tokay, Hungary's favorite wine, have been frustrated several times by government refusal to grant them the honor of using the wine's label because of insufficient oxidization. This development discourages foreign investment in the industry.

A journey home to Tokay: Californian helps Hungarians rebuild

Article Abstract:

Tamas returned to Hungary, where he was born, as a part of Volunteers in Overseas Cooperative Assistance. He owns Ivan Tamas Cellars in Livermore, CA, and will help Tokay vintners learn to market and sell their wines. Tamas plans to return and help Hungarians further.

Californian stakes his name on Rhone varietals

Alban, who has a master's degree in enology, is producing Viognier in Edna Valley, a California Central Coast wine district. This Rhone wine from Alban Vineyards sells for $28 a bottle and was rated 86 on a scale of 100 in a tasting.
