California harvest: early and heavy

Article Abstract:

A hot summer prompted many Napa and Sonoma vintners to harvest grapes early, and some are weeks ahead of schedule. The Chardonnay grapes benefited from the conditions, but red wines may not have sufficient tannins as a result of too short a time on the vine.

Visitors to Healdsburg can enjoy the nearby Russian River, fine restaurants, a downtown farmers market and entertainment. The area has several wineries, including the well-known Kendall-Jackson Winery. Most have tasting rooms.
