California classic: Beaulieu Vineyard sets the standard for Napa Cabernet

Article Abstract:

Cabernet wines made by the Beaulieu Vineyard, Napa Valley Georges de Latour Private Reserve, have been the standards for California reds for some time. Results of a tasting of 59 wines, one each from vintages made from 1936-98, are presented that support the standard.

Evaluations of cabernet wines made by Beaulieu Vineyards are presented. The Cabenet Sauvignon Napa Valley Georges de Latour Private Reserve 1998 (price not available) received the highest rating. The price range of the other wines is $20 to $2,875.

Beyond Nebbiolo: alternative reds from Piedmont

Article Abstract:

The two new wines Dolcettos and Barberas from Piedmont are very delicious and flavorful and can be a best alternative for Barolos and Barbarescos. The new wines are reported to be vibrant, fruity and slightly earthy and made to drink a year or two after bottling.
