Australian red wines are displaying very good quality, ranging from classic to outstanding, and are also available at attractive prices, giving good value for money, as observed in the 2004 vintage. They include Block 42 Cabernet Sauvignon, Penfolds Bin 60A, the Two Hands Shiraz McLaren Vale Lily's Garden 2004 and the Little Penguin.

Red wines have outnumbered white wines among the Washington state's top wines and some of these top class wines are presented. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc have given Washington a distinct identity in the world of wine.

It is believed that tainted caps spoil at least three percent of wines that are sealed. Hence, winemakers for white wines, but not for the reds have accepted screw caps.
