New York, NY, plays a major role in the wine auction market. Christie's and Sotheby's London reported sales of $8.2 million during Jan-Jun 1995, but New York City reported sales of over $8.5 million. A collection of 21 bottles of Burgundy sold for almost $100,000 in New York, NY, on Apr 8, 1995.

A wine auction held on Oct 4, 1996, in New York resulted in 98% of a 1,962 lot being sold. The 1961 vintage Chateau Latour sold for $25,300 per case, and 1945 Chateau Mouton-Rothschild sold for $81,700 a case. Some great values were also auctioned.
