Allied sells tea, coffee divisions

Karand Ltd, a newly formed company, is to acquire Allied Domecq's tea and coffee businesses including Lyons Tetley UK, Europe and International and Tetley INc in the US. The businesses have been for sale since Allied's merger with Domecq in 1994. The merged company planned to concentrate on the key activities of spirits and retailing.

Coca-Cola France accused of dirty tricks by leading rivals

Article Abstract:

Coca-Cola has been accused of forcing other brands out of the French soft drinks market by Orangina, a rival French company. Coca-Cola already has 75% of the French cola market and 40% of the soft drinks sector, and is claimed to have been selling Coke at less than cost price from stands set up in the car parks of hypermarkets.

PepsiCo France fights back

Article Abstract:

PepsiCo has increased its share of the French cola market to 12.6%, although Coca-Cola remains the dominant player with 75% of the cola market. PepsiCo aims to have 14% of the market by 1996. Pepsi France has initiated several marketing techniques and introduced Pepsi Max, a new no-sugar drink.
