A question of age: a taste test of 37 Zinfandels that should be in their prime

Article Abstract:

Results of a taste test of 37 Zinfandel wines bottled between 1990-92 are presented. The 1992 Renwood Zinfandel Shenandoah Valley Grandpere ($18 a bottle), 1991 Ridge Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley Lytton Springs ($18 a bottle) and 1990 Ravenswood Zinfandel Sonoma Valley Cooke ($16 a bottle) received the top ratings for each year's products. The 37 wines range in price from $10 to $30.

Zinfandel grape is a workhorse grape throughout most of California's wine history and is admired for its distinctive character and individuality but has taken for granted as it is widely planted and used in many ordinary wines.
