A fork in the road at the New York Times

Article Abstract:

The Times naming of their new restaurant critic as Frank Bruni and chief wine critic as Eric Asimov amidst widespread criticism of their interim restaurant critic Amanda Hesser is reported. Asimov's appointment is in line with the Times tradition of seeking expertise and experience in its critics but Bruni's appointment to the most important position in American restaurant reviewing takes the paper in a different direction due to his lack of specialized knowledge in this field.

Emeril Lagasse's helping hand: Carnivale du Vin raises $2.5 million for the children of New Orleans

Article Abstract:

A successful chef Emeril Lagasse organized Carnivale du Vin organized a star-studded culinary event in October 2006, raising more than $2.5 million. This money was raised through a banquet and a live auction of wines to benefit the children of the city devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

Long island's bridle and bottle soiree

Article Abstract:

The wine tasting, dinner, and charity auction took place at Hampton Classic Horse Show in Bridgehampton, New York. The auction in all raised $30000, which will be used for the benefit of three Long Island hospitals.
