More than 400 white Burgundy wines from the 1994 vintage were evaluated for their taste, and 16% of the wines evaluated received outstanding ratings. The wines selected were from various wineries in France. Prices range greatly, from $14 to $200 per bottle, but most ranged between $30-$50.

Seven classic reds, including 1990s vintages and the 1865 Bouchard Volnay Santenots, representing predominant 'classic' styles of modern Burgundy making, are analyzed. Three whites made by very reliable winemakers are also described. A table of 1990s recommended buys is also provided.

The 1995 and 1996 vintages of Burgundy are two of the best in recent history, particularly for consecutive years. The 1995 white Burgundy vintage really stands out. Many of these are evaluated and rated numerically, with prices also included.
