Article Abstract:

The 1989 vintage was known as the 'vintage from hell' for many California wine makers. Heavy rains during the harvest caused significant damage. Despite the variable quality of the vintage, the year produced some memorable wines. Results from a retrospective tasting of 1989 Cabernets are presented.

Williams Selyem has produced some outstanding wines. The California vintner's Pinot Noirs are rated on a scale of one to 100, with tasting notes and prices provided. A 1992 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir Rochioli Vineyard at $80 is rated 97.

Monterey's resurgence
