Issues concerning the concepts of designing garments with slits in the sleeves are presented, with reference made to clothing from the 1500s. Information is included on a variety of different sleeve designs, all of which can be found in Francois Boucher's book - 20,000 years of fashion.

Sashiko stitching by machine can be done easily by stitching continuous lines along the fabric's length instead of stopping from time to time to tie knots. This method will enable Sashiko practitioners to create their own designs and recreate existing patterns with ease.

Getting better on the bias

Article Abstract:

The flow and drape of clothes are determined by the method of cutting fabrics along the bias grain. This is demonstrated with the use of a two-seam bias-skirt pattern and a choice of preferred fabrics, such as silk charmeuse, washed silk and silk faille.
