Couturier Elsa Schiaparelli loved to shock people with her designs or her behavior and she would never flinch at the thought of going out in the weirdest of get-ups but her designs always made a mark in the world of fashion. Many people say that the designer was born ahead of her times but having collaborated with everyone from Paris to the US and related to aristocrats she could afford to be eccentric and secretive.

Mary Cassatt teamed with Louisine, wife of sugar king Henry O. Havemeyer, to assemble an art collection, including works of Degas, Manet and Courbet. The women shared interests in politics and feminism and marched as suffragettes. The vast Havemeyer art collection was dissolved during the Depression.
