Article Abstract:

The Necropolis, a painting by Ford, opened another chapter in the rebirth of figurative art. Ford started painting when he was five years old by copying the drawings of John James Audubon. His works reflect a mixture of the 19th century draftsmanship and hypercontemporary art.

Fiona Banner's visual art work is profiled, on the occasion of her exhibition in New York in February 2001. The inspiration for her work from films and pornography is discussed. The style of her work representing painted words and sculptural shapes is also considered.

Newport light

Article Abstract:

Cushing may not be very popular outside Newport, RI, but his work surely deserves greater recognition. Born in 1869 and educated at the Academie Julian, Cushing was one among many artists who loved and succeeded in depicting the essence of Newport in their works.
