Parents are advised to introduce rules appropriate for the school year, such as going to bed earlier, a few weeks before school starts to help children make the transition between summer vacation and the school year. Five other steps designed to help children have a positive beginning to the school year are provided.

Children that go online find that the Internet has more to offer than just games. Some of the opportunities available include finding out how to do things such as how to make homemade finger paint. Chat rooms for children help friendships develop and allow children to ask each other questions.

Children as young as 3 months old understand far more than is readily apparent, and they can benefit from hearing language far beyond their ability to reproduce or fully understand. Methods for encouraging language development in infants are described.
