Comparing one-partner and couple data on sensitive marital behaviors: the case of marital violence

Article Abstract:

A considerable underreporting of violence was noted in an analysis of one-partner and couple data on marital violence. The comparison sought to examine the effects of reporting bias on spouses' responses to questions on sensitive marital issues. Certain predictors of violence were found to be significantly linked to underreporting by a spouse. Divergences between predictor models based on one-partner and couple scores of violence are the result of these relationships between predictors of violence and underreporting.

Changes in housework after retirement: A panel analysis

Article Abstract:

A study addresses certain limitations on past studies relating to the relationship between employment and housework, in particular changes in housework after retirement. Retirees were found to spend more time with housework than those in continuous employment. The effect of changes in paid labour on housework time was found to be contingent on the other spouse's employment, along with gender roles and marital dependence.

Historical perspectives on family studies

Article Abstract:

An investigation of the links between historical research and contemporary family studies is presented. The importance of dialogue between ethnographers, historians and social scientists in the field of family studies is highlighted.
