Modeling ecological constraints on tropical forest management: spatial interdependence, irreversibility, and uncertainty

Article Abstract:

A spatial-intertemporal model for tropical forest management is presented. Taking more ecological factors into consideration than traditional models and incorporating these factors with static and dynamic economic information, it is considered more effective in providing optimal patterns of income-generating but reversible land uses and spatial planning for forest recovery. It is concluded that the model could be used in the effective utilization of tropical forests.

Weak complementarity, path independence, and the intuition of the Willig condition

Article Abstract:

An intuitive explanation of the Willig condition is presented and the alternative versions equivalent to a path-independence condition for line integrals are shown. The importance and restrictiveness of the Willig condition are seen using three alternative functional forms.

The influence of public open space on urban spatial structure

Article Abstract:

The impact of open space designation on the urban landscape in a spatial city model is discussed with two important and empirically relevant features: 1) residents prefer to live close to open space, 2) open space amenities attract migrants to the city.
