The volume of batch tunnel composting in Europe is forecast to reach 1,790,000 metric tons in 1998, from 1,000 metric tons in 1988. Batch tunnel composting is not yet firmly established in some European countries, but is being actively adopted in the Netherlands, Spain, Germany and Italy.
