U.S. nuclear obsession obstructs elimination of nuclear weapons

Article Abstract:

The nuclear arms race could continue, despite international efforts to put an end to it, because the US is maintaining and even upgrading its own supply of nuclear weapons. The US is also supporting an unconditional extension of the Non-Proliferation Treaty, while Greenpeace and many non-nuclear countries are against it because of its lack of incentives and other flaws. By refusing to dismantle its nuclear arsenal, the US is encouraging the international proliferation of such weapons.

Article Abstract:

Retired Four-Star Gen. Lee Butler expressed his support for the anti-nuclear weapons movement. He stresses that the mere existence of nuclear weapons promotes fear among both nuclear and non-nuclear states and that the US' persistence to use nuclear arms as a deterrent to war will diminish its stature as a world leader. Butler also called on all countries to change their nuclear policies and strategies and support the elimination of nuclear arms.

Needling the nuclear dumpers

Article Abstract:

Construction of a radioactive waste dump site near the Colorado river in California has been delayed due to efforts from Greenpeace, 40 community groupsand 3 native American nations. The project delay will last until concerned groups air their opinions in formal public hearings. The California Low Level Radioactive Waste disposal site would hold waste that could last for hundreds of thousands of years.
