Fluxes of methane and carbon dioxide on peat-mining areas in Sweden
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that peatland mining is a significant contributor to atmospheric methane and carbon dioxide. Methane fluxes were highest in mining ditches, while carbon dioxide releases were present in both ditches and mining strips; strips yielded the highest levels of total emissions.

It is illustrated how remote sensing and GIS can be used to compile information regarding land-use activities and patterns among reindeer herders and other land users in northern Sweden. The project can serve as a model.

In Sweden about 55% of the land area is covered by forest. Presently, there is no uniform and geographically explicit description of the forest cover for Sweden.
